About Brooke

A different kind of accountant

Big Four trained. Collingwood rooted. Shaped by a decade in public accounting, a sabbatical that changed everything, and a deep belief that good financial support should feel human.

THE STORY

From Bay Street to Georgian Bay

I spent nearly a decade at one of the Big Four global firms in Toronto, advising large organizations on tax compliance, financial reporting, risk management, and complex regulatory and technology initiatives. It was rigorous, demanding work that gave me a deep technical foundation.

In the fall of 2020, after one too many lockdowns living in downtown Toronto, I moved home to Collingwood to work remotely. I told myself it was temporary. I grew up here, but returning as an adult made me realize how special this place really is. The trails, the water, the community. Before long, I stopped saying I’d be moving back to the city.

By 2022, the burnout I had been outrunning finally caught up to me. I took a sabbatical, traveled, and for the first time had real space to breathe and to examine what I actually valued and what I’d been too busy to question.

Part of what I encountered abroad was a different relationship to death: cultures that treat it as a natural and sacred part of life rather than a failure to be feared or ignored. Everything in nature arises and passes away. Turning toward that reality clarified what truly matters, and changed how I relate to fear — not as something to avoid, but something to learn from.

There was a point during that time away when I genuinely didn’t think I’d return to accounting at all. But with enough distance came new perspective: I realized I love this work, and people need this kind of support. I just needed to do it differently.

I returned with clarity: I could use these skills to support the people and organizations helping my community thrive, rather than the large corporations that seemed to be harming it. So I resigned, founded my own practice based in Collingwood, and never looked back.

I came back to accounting with the same technical skills — and a very different set of eyes.

How I work

What you can expect

Plain language

I explain everything clearly and make sure you leave every conversation more informed than when you arrived.

No judgement

Whether your books are a mess, you’ve missed years of filings, or you’re not sure what questions to ask — you will not be made to feel embarrassed here. Everyone starts somewhere.

The wider picture

Numbers don’t exist in isolation. I try to understand what’s actually going on in your business and your life, because that context shapes what good financial advice actually looks like.

Actually reachable

If you’ve ever had to chase your accountant for a response, that won’t be your experience here. I take communication seriously and make sure you always know where things stand.

Honest counsel

I’ll tell you what I actually think — including when the answer isn’t what you were hoping for. Trust requires honesty, and honesty requires some courage on both sides.

Beyond the CPA

The rest of who I am

Death and taxes ask similar questions. Taxes ask: How will you contribute to the collective?  Death asks: Are you living in a way you’ll feel proud to leave behind? Both have made me a more thoughtful accountant and a more present human being — someone who understands that the financial and the deeply personal are rarely as separate as we pretend.

When I’m not working you’ll find me deep in the forest foraging for mushrooms, advocating for a healthier planet, playing with my nephews, or traveling in search of the perfect surf break. My concern for people and planet runs through everything — I’m passionate about climate action and believe that purpose-driven businesses, supported by strong financial foundations, are part of how we build a more sustainable future.

Turning toward the things people avoid — death, taxes, financial shame — is where the most meaningful work happens.
